IBM describe business mashups as ‘situational applications’ that can surface enterprise data via internally developed widgets with Internet-based third-party widgets and feed APIs to deliver unique combinations of information to drive short-term insight and innovation. Based on widgets and feeds, they present the opportunity for organisations to publish information either directly from the IBM Mashup Center or package widget-driven content for embedding in web pages.
Using standards-based feed of RSS, Atom and XML and the RESTful approach, Mashup Center puts powerful builder tools in the hands of business analysts and power users while leaving the development and control of data feeds in the hands of IT professionals.
